Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 17, 2026 · Last updated: September 27, 2026
The short version
- We collect what MacroSnap needs to work: your profile and goals, the meals and weight you log, and meal photos you choose to analyze.
- Meal photos, and the food and calorie details used for coaching, are sent to Google's Gemini AI (Google Cloud Vertex AI) to produce estimates — only after you agree in the app, and you can turn AI features off at any time. They are not used to train AI models.
- Your data is stored in a private account space that only you can access. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't use your health information for advertising.
- Health details, photos and your email are never sent to our analytics, and you can turn usage analytics off in the app.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from the app at any time.
1. Who we are
MacroSnap ("MacroSnap", "we", "us") is a wellness app for estimating and tracking calories and macronutrients, operated by Jayden Tran, trading as Zenta Labs, 154 Cau Giay, Cau Giay District, Hanoi 11314, Vietnam ("Zenta Labs"). Zenta Labs is responsible for (the "controller" of) the personal information described in this policy. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the MacroSnap mobile app and this website. If you have questions, contact us at contact.zentalabs@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account | A guest account identifier created when you first open the app. If you save your account with email: your email address (passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are not visible to us). If you continue with Google: the email address, name and profile photo URL that Google shares with us. If you continue with Apple: the email address Apple shares with us (which may be a private relay address) and, the first time only, the name you choose to share. |
| Profile and goals | Age, sex, height, weight, activity level, unit preference, goal (for example, lose weight), target weight, and your calorie and macro targets. Whether you accepted the health notice. |
| Food and weight logs | Meals, foods, portions and times you log; custom foods (including any barcode you save with them), favorites and saved meals; weight entries and optional notes. |
| Meal photos | Photos you choose to analyze with Analyze Meal, and the foods, portions and corrections that result. |
| Coaching choices | Options you pick when asking for meal ideas, such as meal type, cuisine, preparation time and food preferences. |
| Settings | App language, reminder preferences (reminders are scheduled on your device) and other in-app settings. |
| Support messages | Anything you send us by email. |
Information created as you use MacroSnap
- Derived data: daily totals, streaks, scan counts used for the free plan, daily counts of AI requests used for fair-use limits, AI meal suggestions, daily check-ins and weekly insights.
- Purchases and subscription status: whether you have Premium, the product, renewal and trial state, and the store's purchase token or transaction record, linked to your account so we can verify it and let you restore it. Payments are processed by Apple or Google; we never receive your card details.
- Usage analytics: app events (for example, "scan started" or "meal saved"), screens viewed, app version, device model, operating system, approximate country, and identifiers: your MacroSnap account ID (a random identifier, not your name or email) and an app-instance identifier. MacroSnap doesn't collect your device's advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, advertising ID on Android). We deliberately exclude health values, photos, meal contents, free text and your email from analytics. You can turn this off in Profile → Privacy & Data → Share usage analytics.
- Crash reports: technical details about crashes and errors (device, app state, stack traces and your account ID) so we can fix problems. Turning off Share usage analytics also turns off crash reporting and discards crash reports not yet sent.
- App integrity checks: to protect our servers from abuse, the app obtains attestation tokens from Apple (App Attest / DeviceCheck) or Google (Play Integrity) that confirm requests come from a genuine copy of MacroSnap. These tokens contain no health information.
We don't collect your precise location, your contacts, or data from other apps (other than Apple Health or Health Connect, if you connect them), and MacroSnap does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
3. Health information and Apple Health / Health Connect
Some of what you enter — such as your weight, height, goals, food logs and meal photos — is health-related information, which many laws treat as sensitive. During setup, MacroSnap asks for your explicit consent to process the health information you enter (age, sex, height, weight, activity, goals, food and weight logs) to provide the app. We use it only to provide MacroSnap's features to you. We never sell it, never use it for advertising or marketing, never share it with data brokers, and never send it to analytics.
Apple Health and Health Connect (optional). If you connect them in Profile → Health Integration, MacroSnap asks for your permission for each data type you choose:
- Weight: weights recorded in Apple Health or Health Connect are imported into your MacroSnap weight history (stored in your account like weights you log manually, and used to update your current weight), and weights you log in MacroSnap are saved back to Apple Health or Health Connect.
- Steps and active energy: read on your device to show today's activity. They are not uploaded to our servers.
We also store whether you are connected and which data types you shared. Information from Apple Health and Health Connect:
- is used only to show and sync your weight and activity in MacroSnap;
- is never used for advertising, marketing or data mining, never sold, and never shared with third parties except the infrastructure providers that store your account data for us;
- is not sent to our AI provider or to analytics, and is not used to train AI models;
- is not stored in iCloud by MacroSnap.
MacroSnap's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements. You can turn access off at any time in the Health app (iOS) or Health Connect settings (Android), or disconnect in MacroSnap. Turning access off stops future syncing; weights already imported stay in your MacroSnap history until you delete them or your account.
4. How we use information
- To provide the app: create your account, estimate meals from photos, look up foods and barcodes, calculate your targets, and show your logs and progress on your devices.
- To personalize: generate meal ideas, check-ins and insights based on your targets and logs, in your app language.
- To run the service: enforce plan limits, manage subscriptions, prevent abuse and keep accounts secure.
- To improve MacroSnap: understand which features are used and fix bugs and crashes.
- To communicate: reply to your support requests and send in-app reminders you turn on.
- To comply with law: respond to lawful requests and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use your health information for advertising. We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects; AI results in MacroSnap are estimates and suggestions that you can review and change.
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
If data protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply to you, we rely on the following legal bases:
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Creating and running your account, logging, syncing across devices, subscriptions, support | Performance of our contract with you |
| Processing health-related information (profile, weight, food logs, Apple Health / Health Connect data) | Your explicit consent, given in the app during setup (and, for Apple Health / Health Connect, when you connect them). You can withdraw it at any time by disconnecting health access, deleting the relevant entries, or deleting your account; this doesn't affect processing before withdrawal. |
| Sending meal photos, targets and logged totals to our AI provider for scans, meal suggestions, check-ins and weekly insights | Your explicit consent, asked in the app before your first AI scan or AI Coach request. You can withdraw it at any time in Profile → Privacy & Data → AI features; this doesn't affect processing before withdrawal. |
| Preventing abuse and securing the service | Our legitimate interests in keeping MacroSnap secure and reliable, balanced against your rights |
| Usage analytics and crash reporting | Our legitimate interests in keeping MacroSnap reliable and useful, balanced against your rights (no health values, photos or email are included). You can object at any time by turning off Profile → Privacy & Data → Share usage analytics. |
| Responding to lawful requests and keeping records required by law | Compliance with legal obligations |
6. Meal photos and AI
An account and your permission first. AI features are available only to saved accounts (email, Google or Apple). Before your first AI photo scan, and before your first AI meal suggestion, daily check-in or weekly insight, MacroSnap explains what is sent to the AI service and asks you to agree. If you choose "Not now", nothing is sent and you can still log food manually. Your choice is saved with your account settings, and you can turn AI features off (or back on) at any time in Profile → Privacy & Data → AI features; while they are off, the app doesn't send photos or coaching requests to the AI service.
A photo leaves your device only when you tap Analyze Meal. It is resized, uploaded to your private storage space, and then sent from our servers to an AI vision service to identify the foods and estimate portions. Nutrition values are calculated from those estimates using our food database.
- The AI service currently used is Google's Gemini models on Google Cloud Vertex AI, which processes data on our behalf as a data processor. Under Google Cloud's terms, customer data sent to Vertex AI is not used to train Google's models.
- We do not use your photos or logs to train our own AI models.
- We don't include your name, email or account details in what we send to the AI service.
- AI results are estimates and can be wrong. You can correct any food or portion, and your corrections are saved with the scan.
- Please photograph only food. Avoid capturing people, documents or other personal details in meal photos.
What is sent for other AI features:
- Meal suggestions and daily check-ins: your remaining and target calories and macros, the options you choose (such as meal type, cuisine, preparation time and preferences), the number of meals logged today, the local hour and your app language.
- Weekly insights: summaries of your logged daily totals compared with your targets.
- Food search: the text you type, when it isn't found in our food list (signed-in accounts that turned on AI features only). The resulting match is cached on our servers for 30 days without any account identifier, so the same search is faster for everyone.
Your age, sex, height, weight and Apple Health / Health Connect data are not sent to the AI service.
Photo retention: analyzed photos are stored with the scan in your account so you can review it. Deleting a logged meal from your history does not remove the original scan photo; photos are deleted when you delete your account.
7. Service providers and sharing
We share information only with providers that help us run MacroSnap, only as needed to provide their service, and under contracts that restrict how they use it:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Remote Config) | Accounts, database, photo storage, server processing, feature settings | Account, profile, logs, photos, derived data |
| Google Sign-In | Optional sign-in with your Google account | Email address, name and profile photo URL |
| Sign in with Apple | Optional sign-in with your Apple ID | Email address (or private relay address) and, the first time, your name if you share it |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Usage analytics | App events, device information and identifiers (no health values, photos or email) |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reporting | Crash and device diagnostics, account ID |
| Firebase App Check with Apple App Attest / DeviceCheck and Google Play Integrity | Confirming requests come from the genuine app, to prevent abuse | Device attestation tokens (no health data) |
| Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini) | Identifying foods in meal photos, generating coaching text, and matching food searches typed in other languages | Meal photos; targets, logged totals and coaching choices; the food search text when it isn't found in our food list (no account details) |
| Open Food Facts | Looking up nutrition for packaged foods you scan by barcode (requested by our servers) | Only the product barcode number — no account or personal information |
| Apple App Store and Google Play | Payment processing and purchase verification | Purchase token or transaction identifier, product, subscription status and expiry (we never receive your payment details) |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Payments and app distribution | Handled under Apple's or Google's own privacy policies |
We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, property and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy (or one at least as protective) will continue to apply to your information.
8. How long we keep data
- Your account data, logs and photos: kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account. You can delete individual meals and weight entries at any time.
- AI meal suggestions: expire automatically about 7 days after they are generated.
- Food search matches: cached for 30 days without any account identifier.
- Daily AI request counters: only counts, no content; replaced each day and deleted with your account.
- Analytics data: kept for the event-data retention period configured in Google Analytics, then deleted automatically. It is not linked to your health information.
- Crash reports: kept by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
- Support emails: kept as long as needed to handle your request and meet legal obligations.
- Guest accounts: if you remove the app without saving your account, the data can no longer be reached from the app. Contact us to have it deleted.
9. Deleting your account and data
In the app: open MacroSnap → Profile → Privacy & Data → Delete my account and data, then confirm.
This permanently deletes your account, profile, goals, meals, scans, meal photos, weight logs, favorites, saved meals, custom foods, AI suggestions, insights and settings from our systems, and removes your sign-in record. It cannot be undone. If you signed in with Apple, MacroSnap also revokes its Sign in with Apple access. Store purchases linked to the account are released so you can restore them on a new account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel it in your store settings to stop renewals.
Without the app: email contact.zentalabs@gmail.com with the subject "MacroSnap account deletion request" from the email address saved on your account. We will verify the request and delete the account and its data within 30 days. Residual copies in routine backups are removed as those backups expire.
What deletion doesn't cover:
- Weights MacroSnap saved to Apple Health or Health Connect stay there; delete them in the Health app or Health Connect.
- If you signed in with Google, you can also remove MacroSnap's access in your Google Account settings.
- Analytics and crash data, which are not linked to your health information, are deleted when their retention periods (section 8) end.
10. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: view and edit your profile, goals, meals and weight logs in the app at any time.
- Deletion: as described above.
- Health access: connect or disconnect Apple Health / Health Connect, and choose which data types to share.
- AI features: agree or say "Not now" when first asked, and turn AI features on or off at any time in Profile → Privacy & Data.
- Usage analytics: turn usage analytics and crash reporting off in Profile → Privacy & Data → Share usage analytics.
- Reminders: turn reminders on or off in Profile → Notifications, or in your device settings.
- Camera and photos: MacroSnap asks before accessing your camera or photo library. You can change this in your device settings.
- Copies of your data: email us to request a copy of the personal data associated with your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland these include the rights to access, correct and erase your data; to restrict or object to processing (including processing based on legitimate interests); to data portability; to withdraw consent at any time; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any right, contact us at contact.zentalabs@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity, usually by asking you to write from the email address on your account. We respond within the time required by applicable law (for example, one month under the GDPR, which may be extended where the law allows). We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
11. US state privacy and consumer health data
Several US states, including California (CCPA/CPRA), Washington (My Health My Data Act), Nevada and Connecticut, give residents rights over personal information and "consumer health data". This section summarizes our practices for those residents:
- Categories we collect: identifiers (account ID, email, app-instance identifiers), sensitive personal information and consumer health data (profile and body measurements, goals, food and weight logs, meal photos, weight from Apple Health / Health Connect), commercial information (subscription status), device and app activity (analytics and crash data), and derived information (targets, insights and suggestions). See section 2 for details.
- Sources: you, your device (including Apple Health or Health Connect when you connect them), and Google when you sign in with Google.
- Purposes: the purposes in section 4. We use sensitive and health information only to provide the features you request.
- Sharing: only with the service providers in section 7, acting on our behalf. We do not sell or "share" personal information (including consumer health data) for targeted advertising, and have not done so in the past 12 months.
- Your rights: to know or access the personal information and consumer health data we have about you and the third parties it was shared with; to correct it; to delete it; to withdraw consent; and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.
- How to exercise them: email contact.zentalabs@gmail.com. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision; if you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact your state attorney general.
12. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access rules ensure each user can read and change only their own data, server-controlled fields (such as Premium status and scan results) can be changed only by our backend, and App Check helps block requests that don't come from the genuine app. We limit internal access to personal information to what is needed to operate and support MacroSnap. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information, and we will notify you and the authorities of a data breach where the law requires. If you find a security issue, please report it to contact.zentalabs@gmail.com.
13. Storage location and international transfers
MacroSnap's database, photo storage, server functions and AI processing are hosted by Google Cloud in the United States (us-central1). If you use MacroSnap from another country, including the EEA, UK or Switzerland, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may not offer the same level of protection as your country. We rely on our providers' data processing terms for these transfers, which include safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions. Contact us to learn more about these safeguards.
14. Age requirement
MacroSnap is intended for adults aged 18 and over, and the app requires an age of 18 or more during setup. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MacroSnap or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new "last updated" date, and notify you in the app before material changes take effect. Where the law requires your consent to a change, we will ask for it. Previous versions are available on request.
